Immigrant Investor Program

Non-repayable financial contribution (10% to 15% of project costs) for investment projects (business start-up, increase, modernization or improvement of production, certification of conformity to a standard, technological or design innovation) or market development (marketing of products outside Quebec).

The contribution is limited to $250,000 per company per three-year period.

Details:

• For businesses in the following fields: manufacturing, biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, aeronautics, IT, tourism, environment, aquaculture, mariculture, horticulture, centralized call services;
• For investment or major market development projects: minimum of $270,000 for start-up companies and $300,000 for others;
• Maximum project duration: 2 years;
• Consolidated assets of the company less than $35M.

The company must obtain a favorable recommendation from an accredited financial intermediary. When the application is submitted, the project can be started but not completed.

TAX CREDIT FOR INVESTMENT AND INNOVATION

Tax credit for businesses that have acquired a specific asset. This must exceed a threshold of $5,000 or $12,500, depending on the property, and the applicable rates are between 10% and 20% depending on the economic vitality index of the region where the property will be acquired for use.

Specified property is property that was acquired after March 10, 2020, but before January 1, 2025, and meets one of the following conditions:

• It is manufacturing and processing equipment
• It is general-purpose electronic data processing equipment (or is operating software that relates to such equipment)
• It is an eligible business software package

In addition, a specified property must also have all of the following characteristics:

• It is new, and the corporation began using it within a reasonable time after acquiring it
• It was not acquired for use in the operation of a recognized business relating to a major capital project;
• It is used primarily in Quebec
